FRANCO CHALLENGES OPPONENTS TO SUPPORT MEASURES TO CLEAN HOUSE

Franco Wants Citizen Friendly House of Representatives

Paxton/Worcester, MA…Today Paul Franco, Republican candidate for State Representative in the Thirteenth Worcester District, challenged his two opponents to support his plan for reforming the House of Representative.

As your next State Representative, Franco wants to restore the integrity to the Massachusetts House of Representatives which includes:

·         End the legislative exemption for the public records law.
·         Stop the passage of controversial items at informal sessions.
·         End the practice of amendment bundling in order to provide more transparency within the legislative process.
·         End the legislative exemption for the Open Meeting Law.  Let’s find out what deals are being made during Conference Committees.
·         Require a supermajority of votes to raise taxes
·         Term limits for the Speaker
·         End the practice of extra pay for Vice Chairmen

“We need to clean up the legislature.  Over the years, the House has been plagued with scandal.  Right now, the third Speaker in a row is facing felony prosecution.  These ethical problems have undermined the people’s faith in our system of government.  We must restore integrity,” said Franco.  “I will fight for accountability and transparency.”

Franco also supports Mary Connaughton’s proposal to require a full audit of the legislature.  He believes there should be a full accounting of all legislative expenditures.

Lt. Col. Franco has lived in Worcester for 22 years where he has practiced law.  He has worked as an attorney with the Law Offices of Joseph J. Cariglia for the past 10 years.  Franco has also been active within the community serving on the West Tatnuck Elementary Parents’ Advisory Council, Christ the King Church Parish Council, and as Director of Tee-ball and AA Boys Baseball Leagues for 2008-2009 with the Jesse Burkett Little League. He has also coached and served on the Board of Directors for the St. Peter’s Church basketball league and he has coached youth soccer in Worcester since 1994.

Franco has been married to Mary Ann Franco for nearly 27 years and they have six children, ranging in ages from eight to 25.  All of his children are or have attended the Worcester Public Schools.
