FRANCO CHALLENGES OPPONENTS TO SIGN NO NEW TAXES PLEDGE

Taxpayers have the right to know if they will vote for higher taxes

Worcester, MA…Today Paul Franco, Republican candidate for State Representative in the Thirteenth Worcester District, called on his Democratic and Independent opponents to sign Citizens for Limited Taxation’s “No New Taxes” Pledge and state whether they believe that the state should roll back the 25% sales tax hike.

“The voters deserve to know where their next State Representative stands on taxes. As State Representative, I will work to lower the tax burden and I strongly believe that we should roll back the sales tax that puts our state at a competitive disadvantage,” said Franco.

The “No New Taxes” pledge clearly states as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Paul Franco would oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.

Last year the House of Representatives increased the sales tax by 25% and put a tax on a tax for alcohol.

“Taxpayers deserve to keep more of their paychecks and no one should have to work two jobs just to make end meet. If we don’t control the tax burden, then the legislature will continue to spend, spend, spend,” said Franco. “I trust that taxpayers know best how to spend and save money than state bureaucrats and that’s why I proudly signed the pledge. Do my opponents trust the voters?”

Franco signed the pledge last July after finishing his tour of duty in the Army Reserves.

“Our state government does not have a revenue problem. We have a spending problem. It is time to put government spending on a diet,” said Franco. “Working hard to provide for my family and having recently completed a year of active duty, I know what tax cuts can do for the average family budget. People, not the government, know best how to spend or save their own money. As the next State Representative, I can make a real difference on the issues confronting the middle class.”

Lieutenant Colonel Paul J. Franco just came off active duty as a US Army Reservist. He has been working as a Soldiers’ Counsel at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC, for the past year as a mobilized US Army Reservist. His duties were to represent those soldiers injured during the war to ensure they receive the appropriate amount of compensation before being medically retired or separated. Franco’s efforts were so successful that over 70-percent of the soldiers he represented received an increase in their benefits or managed to be retained in the Army.

On June 14th, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by the Northern Regional Medical Commander, Major General Carla Hawley-Bowland, for his “unwavering professionalism, commitment.”

Besides being an officer in the US Army Reserve since 1980, Franco has lived in Worcester for 22 years where he has practiced law. He has worked as an attorney with the Law Offices of Joseph J. Cariglia for the past 10 years. Franco has also been active within the community serving on the West Tatnuck Elementary Parents’ Advisory Council, Christ the King Church Parish Council, and as Director of Tee-ball and AA Boys Baseball Leagues for 2008-2009 with the Jesse Burkett Little League. Candidate Concerned about Crime

Worcester, MA…Last Friday night Paul Franco, Republican candidate for State Representative in the Thirteenth Worcester District, rode around with police officers in order to get a first-hand look at the crime situation in Worcester.

“I am concerned about the public safety of our citizens. The best way to assess the situation is to ride along with our police officers. Our next State Representative must be prepared to help address the issue of crime that is not only effects people’s personal safety, but also affects our local economy,” said Franco.

Franco got to see Worcester’s finest in action. During the night, Officer Dowd handled a variety of situations including traffic stops, an attempted car vandalism, a drunken driving stop, crowd control, and attempted apprehension of a suspect. Franco was disappointed to see so many people treat the police with lack of respect during routine crowd control operations. “These officers put their lives on the line to protect us. They deserve our respect,” said Franco.

Franco also appreciated the officer’s direct input regarding the tools the police need to fight crime and protect the public.

“As a father, I want my children to be safe on our streets. As the next State Representative, I want to give our police officers the legislative tools they need to protect the people,” added Franco.

When elected, Franco plans on going on patrol again to continue to monitor crime on our streets. “We cannot rebuild our local economy if people are afraid to walk the streets,” added Franco.

“I am a father not a politician. When our children graduate from high school, I want our children to be prepared to either go to College or excel at a trade of their choice,” said Franco. “I want tough academic standards, extensive training in the basics, smaller class sizes, and more dollars in the classrooms. As the next State Representative, I will be on the side of our students and parents rather than the teachers’ union.”

Franco’s Educational Priorities are:

· Tough Academics-- Franco opposes the Patrick Administration’s move to adopt the federal government’s ‘Common Core’ standards which lower standards in the Commonwealth. Franco supports keeping MCAS. As a father of six children, he is committed to fighting for the highest academic standards.

· Back to Basics—Franco wants stronger emphasis on the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic so they have the building blocks for the future.

· Smaller Class Sizes—Franco supports smaller class sizes so that our students get more individual attention.

· Dollars in Classrooms—Franco wants our educational dollars to be spent in the classrooms educating our children rather than going to bureaucracy. He will fight for our fair share of local aid funding.

“This is an utter disgrace. Our military men and women are putting their lives on the line to defend our freedoms, but we deny them their right to vote. This is a sad day for the state of Massachusetts,” said Franco. “We have an obligation to count these votes and to fix the system so these brave people are not left out of the election process.”

FRANCO KICKS OFF DOOR KNOCKING CAMPAIGN

Paxton, MA…Today Paul Franco, Republican candidate for State Representative in the Thirteenth Worcester District, announced that he has kicked off his door knocking campaign in Paxton.

“It is very important to meet voters face to face,” stated Franco. “I am running for State Representative to serve the people of Paxton and Worcester not the Beacon Hill insiders. I want to meet with as many voters as possible over the next 83 days to discuss my ideas for creating fiscal responsibility within the state budget, a lower tax burden and reviving our economy.”

Franco believes that visiting voters at their doors is the best method for opening a dialogue on the serious issues confronting our district and state. He plans to door knock straight through until November 2^nd.

“It is important that the people of the district know that they have direct access to their elected leaders. That’s why I am going to their doors.
